In this episode of The Art Hunter, David Hunt talks to Tenor Shanul Sharmas about his journey from Rock and Roll to Opera.

Indian-born tenor Shanul Sharma began as a heavy metal vocalist releasing three studio albums. He made his debut with Opera Australia as Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola, and has since sung Il Conte di Libenskof in Il viaggio a Reims, The Student in The Ghost Sonata, and has featured at Opera in the Domain.

Shanul has appeared as Libenskof for the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow and the Rossini Opera Festival, Pesaro; the title role of Mozart’s Mitridate, Re di Ponto, Vicenza; Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Lucca; Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Pavia; Lindoro in L’italiana in Algeri for Fondazione Rete, Italy; Rossini’s Stabat Mater at LaVerdi, Milan and Norwegian National Opera, Oslo; Florville in Il Signor Bruschino; the title role in Werther and tenor soloist in Mendelssohn’s Elijah.

Shanul holds an MA in Advanced Vocal Studies from the Wales International Academy of Voice, Cardiff, is winner of the Rossini International Award from Pesaro, Italy and alumnus of Opera Australia’s Moffatt Oxenbould Young Artist Program 2018-2021
