In this episode of The Art Hunter, David Hunt talks to musician and Artistic Director Ben Opie who has travelled the world perfecting his craft with the Oboe.
Ben Opie, a musician (Oboe) and Artistic Director, was born in Victoria Australia. He holds degrees from the Australian National University, and the Johannes Gutenberg Hochschule für Musik in Germany. With colleagues from the ANU, Ben formed the Windswept Wind Quintet, which performed on national ABC radio, as well as in master classes, and competitions and organised regional tours of South Australia.
He earned a Master of Music degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 2009. He studied with performance teachers Susan Harvey, Geoffrey Lancaster, and Genevieve Lacey.
In his words, ‘In this time of uncertainty, I am constantly searching for new and socially responsible ways to share music with people. Since our period of isolation began, I have been able to create online workshops for children with visual impairment, as well as facilitate live streamed performances into aged care facilities.’
